TRUST. TRANSPARENCY. ACCOUNTABILITY.
Awfully Political is an independent progressive media platform providing rigorous, evidence-based analysis of power, public policy, and the media narratives shaping North America and global affairs.
MISSION STATEMENT
Awfully Political is an independent commentary platform focused on explaining power- how it works, who it benefits, and how it is defended.
We produce clear, evidence-based analysis that cuts through noise, spin, and misinformation, translating complex policy, media narratives, and institutional decisions into work that is precise, accessible, and accountable.
Our perspective is openly progressive. We are not neutral on facts, democracy, or human rights.
But we are exacting in how we argue: every claim must be grunded in evidence, logically sound, and able to withstand serious scrutiny.
We challenge political narratives—especially when disinformation and bad-faith arguments distort public understanding—by confronting them head-on with clear evidence, careful scrutiny, and rigorous fact-checking.
EDITORIAL STANDARDS
I grew up during the 1990s- a decade built on simple rules. Work hard. Take responsibility. Don’t expect help. The government should stay out of the way.
That was the atmosphere. A recession in the background. Parents talking about interest rates and layoffs. The GST showing up on every receipt. Money tight- even when no one said it out loud.
For a while, that worldview made sense to me. But over time, the reality stopped matching the story.
Healthcare wasn’t getting easier- it was becoming harder to access. Housing wasn’t stabilizing- it was slipping further away. And when people raised those issues, the answer never changed: work harder.
That’s where this starts.
AWFULLY POLITICAL exists to examine power- how it works, who it benefits, and how decisions are made. Not through slogans. Not through spin. Through evidence, context, and analysis that holds up. This platform is openly progressive. But it is also disciplined. Every claim must be grounded. Every argument must be able to withstand scrutiny. Because if you’re going to challenge power, you don’t get to be careless about the facts.
